Treatment options

There are several possible approaches to the management of xerostomia6

  • Artificial Saliva stimulants (if there is remaining intact gland tissue)
  • Mouth rinses
  • Artificial saliva
    • Artificial salivas (AS) are used to help provide relief to patients suffering from dry mouth or xerostomia. AS should be used in conjunction with standard oral hygiene and mouth care

Patients are usually also encouraged to adopt helpful strategies such as to take frequent sips of water throughout the day, to suck on ice cubes and use sugar-free chewing gum3,5
